The purpose of The Friends of the Carmel Valley Library is to maintain an association of persons interested in the Carmel Valley Branch Library; to foster community participation in, support for, and cooperation with the library in developing library services and facilities for the community, and to solicit and encourage gifts, endowments, and bequests.
Friends of the Carmel Valley Library is a non-profit 501c(3) California corporation established in 1980 by a group of patron supporters who shared an interest in books of all kinds. Since then the mission of the Friends has been to enhance whatever we can at the library in the way of furniture, programs, supplemental staffing and the collection. Our enhancements have grown more meaningful as budget cuts curtail County Library funds. Our goal is to make the most of what we have to keep the library attractive and comfortable for patrons of all ages. Our building is an early adobe-an-redwood former residence that became a restaurant before it became a Monterey County Free Libraries branch library in 1980. The place’s charm and refreshing intimacy invite patrons to feel a sense of ownership in the life of the library by becoming members of the Friends. Anyone who sends in membership dues or a donation automatically becomes a Friend of the Carmel Valley Library.
