Another wonderful novel by multi award-winning Irish writer Sebastian Barry. Tom Kettle, a retired policeman, alone and living in a converted corner of an old castle overlooking the Irish Sea, has a visit from two younger colleagues who are re-investigating an old murder case. One we learn Tom Kettle was involved in, in more ways than one. Although the disturbing subject matter involving the abuse by priests is at the heart of the story, Sebastian Barry as always helps us along with beautiful, poetic writing, humor and the enduring power of love. It’s a detective story, a love story and a tragic story.
